Eerbied en kennis van zaken zijn de eisen, waaraan een vertaler moet
voldoen. Boven werd geconstateerd dat er in het verleden nogal eens uiting werd gegeven aan wantrouwen jegens het vertaalwerk van
personen,die tot een andere modaliteit of een ander kerkgenootschap behoorden en
er beduchtheid bestond voor het doorwerken van theologische standpunten in de vertaling. Bij een zuiver zakelijke beoordeling van vertalingen
moet echter vastgesteld worden dat er slechts bij hoge uitzondering gewezen kan worden op passages, waarin het confessionele (of politieke
en maatschappelijke) standpunt van de vertalers doorklinkt. Zelfs de Niewe-Wereldvertaling van de Jehovah's getuigen kan op dit punt
behoorlijk de toets der kritiek doorstaan. Men neme er in dit verband bij voorbeeld ook nota van dat
remonstranten en doopsgezinden de SV in gebruik konden nemen. Schriftbeschouwing en religieuze overtuiging
plegen aan het licht te komen in aantekeningen en inleidingen van
vertalingen. English Translation: The requirements a translator has to fulfill are with respect to the knowledge of the subject. It was established that, in the past, distrust
was expressed about the translation of persons that belonged to another modality or another religious community and fear existed that
theological points of view would affect the translation. When translations are assessed in a business-like manner it has to be
concluded that only in exceptional circumstances you can point at passages in which the
confessional (or political and social) point of view of the translators can be traced. Even the New World translation of
the Jehovah Witnesses is up to scratch concerning this point. People have to take into account that, for example, Remonstrants and Baptists
also could use the SV. Opinions about the Bible and religious convictions come usually to light in notes and introductions to
translations. |
